P-LS Update

P-LS Newsletter for March 2012

Several years ago, I requested a friend to create a website for our prayer ministry called, Prayer-Life Seminars (P-LS). This ministry dates back some 27 years ago and was founded by an American and Korean War veteran, Dr. Hugh White. Under his able leadership, this prayer ministry has expanded to several countries in Asia and Africa as well as in New Zealand.

Seeing the necessity of…

Happy Thanksgiving!

"That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving,

And tell of all Your wondrous works." - Psalm 26:7, NKJV

While Thanksgiving is not traditionally celebrated in Japan, the Christian community and those who are familiar with this western tradition, do remember and celebrate it. Our church, for example, is slated to have one this coming Sunday on…

Praise Items

Thank you very much for keeping us in your prayers.

Since the tragic events in Japan on March 11th, many people have been confirmed dead, surpassing the death toll recorded in the Great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995 in Kobe, Japan. Moreover, some 13,000 people are still missing or are presumed dead. This number doesn't include those who have never been reported as missing -- like those from the coastal towns that were obliterated by the tsunami.…

Japan's 3.11.2011

Japan Calamity on Three-Eleven

The mighty oceans have roared, O Lord. The mighty oceans roar like thunder; the mighty oceans roar as they pound the shore. But mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore — the Lord above is mightier than these! (…

In Case You're Wondering

Why does JPL still exist?

With the current membership that we have in this site, it's not easy to just let it go away. Admittedly, not everyone registered here is actively participating, but to those who did and the others who still visit this site once in a while, the option to continually operate JPL is a better option. Moreover, this site will continue to advocate for God's kingdom work in Japan and to connect those who have a heart for Japan and her…

Christmas

DECEMBER 2009

I love December for several reasons. One, this is the month we celebrate CHRISTmas and my wife’s birthday too. Two, there’s something special in the air. I don’t know if it’s the cold spell of winter or the prospect of “crossing over” to the New Year. There is something mysterious about it that reminds me of times past. Three, I definitely love the Christmas carols and music that I hear around this time of year.

Speaking of Christmas carols/music, I… Continue

Philippine Typhoon Wrecked Havoc (originally written by Rev. Nanding Paunil)

ONDOY AFTERMATH

Tropical storm Ondoy (international code name Ketsana) that hit the Philippines Saturday (26 September) brought 85-100 kph of gustiness and 455 millimeters (or more than a month's amount) of rain in just 24 hours, which caused flooding in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces. As of 29 September 240 (and counting) were killed because of the storm, 32 were missing, and more than 400,000 were displaced.

The affected areas are Metro Manila, the… Continue

September

SEPTEMBER

9/18/09

In Japan, many people are pinning their hopes on the newly elected prime minister and his party that came to power last September 16 after a landslide victory against the former ruling coalition. The political contest is touted to be historic since the current party has ousted a more dominant political machinery that ruled Japan for over half a century since the end of World War II. PRAYER POINT: Psalm 118:9 (NASB) – “It is better to take refuge in the… Continue

Please Pray with Us

Dear JPL Brethren,

I just want to covet your prayers for the family of Perseveranda So who died in a terrorist attack in Pakistan. She was serving as chief of education for UNICEF when terrorists bombed the Pearl Continental Hotel where she was temporarily staying in Peshawar, Pakistan last Tuesday (9 June). Percy, as she was known to her colleagues, family and friends, is one of the three daughters of Ernesto and Cora So, members of the church I used to pastor in the Philippines.… Continue

Memorial Day

Psalm 116:15 (New King James Version) - "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints."

Several days ago, Gordon Tippett posted a eulogy for her friend Kathryn. I thought it's also appropriate to mention here some of those who passed away as a way to remember and honor them.

You probably have read the note I added entitled, "Prayer Alert!" It was originally sent by our sister in Canada, Susan Sanchez concerning Len, her… Continue

Flu Scare

KYOTO CITY, Friday (22 May 2009) - Government and school authorities here have declared a week-long holiday to minimize the spread of the new flu virus that was detected in a 10-year old boy. It is Kyoto's first reported case of the H1N1 virus.

It's rainy today and the kids are at home. The kids are excited to be home, but my wife and I are thinking to keep their days occupied, productive and fun. I already heard the word "bored" three hours after they wake up.:) Think of five more… Continue

Regaining Momentum

"To God be the glory for the things He has done!"

This year, my family will mark our 8th year of ministry in Japan and our third year in Kyoto City. Time flies so fast indeed.

Our ministry is getting extended since we received our new missionary visa last Wednesday (May 13th), on the same date as my spiritual birthday. Speaking of my spiritual birthday (being born again), I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ through the Vacation Bible School (VBS) that I attended in my… Continue
